About the Theatre

The Phoenix Theatre Company is an amateur theatre group dating from 1922 and established in its current premises (the old Ross fire station) since 1983. An extension to the theatre was opened in 2002. The theatre has an intimate auditorium with a stage and 64 raked seats. The auditorium has modern computer controlled lighting and sound equipment, and has recently been refurbished to a high standard of comfort for our patrons. At the front of the theatre is a two storey extension including a foyer and bar, and upstairs an air-conditioned rehearsal room. There is a quarterly Newsletter to keep members informed of what’s going on in the theatre. An AGM is held in June.

Drama

We generally perform 3-4 productions a year which run for 7 nights (Saturday-Saturday, except Sundays). Within that programme there are opportunities to act, assist behind the scenes (such as stage management or props), or get involved with Front of House duties (such as selling programmes or running the bar), box office, set building, lighting or sound. Prior to any production we hold a play reading which gives members the opportunity to comment on the suitability of the play and a chance to read a part even if they do not wish to act on stage. For any given production, rehearsals normally run for about 8-9 weeks. No experience is necessary to start acting. Just come along and have a go!

The Phoenix Theatre Singers

The Phoenix Theatre Singers normally meet on a Thursday evening for rehearsals and currently have a membership of about 40. They usually stage one production a year and also perform a Christmas concert.

Cinema

The cinema provides an intimate studio atmosphere and includes a state-of-the art digital projection system. Screenings take place on a Saturday. Tickets are priced at £5. For more information, click here to visit the Cinema page.

Phoenix Youth Theatre

The Youth Theatre meets every Saturday (in term time) from 10.00am – 11.30am.

Please see the Phoenix Youth Page for further details.
